PhD Program at University of Toronto

The PhD Program at the iSchool is looking to expand and now has more funding for international students.  We are especially interested in students doing research in Media Technology and Culture.  Please consider applying to our growing program and joining us in Toronto.

I would like to highlight our faculty in the Institute for Communication Culture Information and Technology who are particularly well suited to work with PhD students in Media Technology and Culture.  Please see a description of the work we do and that of the PhD students we have advised.

Assistant Professor, Francophone Canadian or Indigenous Literatures (University of Toronto Mississauga)

The Department of Language Studies, University of Toronto Mississauga, invites applications for a tenure‐stream appointment in the area of Francophone Canadian and/or Francophone indigenous literatures at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position start date is July 1st, 2018.

Qualified candidates must have a PhD in French literature with a focus on francophone Canadian and/or indigenous literatures by the date of appointment, or shortly thereafter. Duties will include teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as supervision of graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to mount and maintain a productive research agenda, and participate in the academic life of the department.

The department is looking for a strong candidate with a proven record of academic and teaching excellence. S/he is expected to develop and maintain a successful, innovative and independent program of externally funded research. Evidence of excellence in research will be demonstrated through publications in top ranked and field relevant academic journals, a research pipeline that is at high international levels, presentations at major conferences, awards and accolades. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, students’ evaluations, letters of reference, and a solid teaching dossier submitted as part of the application. Candidates must have a native or near‐native fluency in French, as well as a strong command of oral and written English are required.

Paper Award 2017 of the Austrian-Canadian Society
The Austrian-Canadian Society (www.austria-canada.com) is pleased to announce the opening of the competition for the 8th annual Scientific Award of the Austrian-Canadian Society. The Award will be presented to the author of the best paper, master thesis or doctoral thesis in the areas of Canadian Studies, and will ideally be relevant to the study of Austria as well. The Society aims to be a key forum for bilateral exchange and cooperation, and looks to deepen the ties between Austria and Canada. The recipient of the Award will be selected by a scientific selection committee and will be announced by the Canadian Ambassador to Austria (Vienna) in December of this year.
