European Summer School in Canadian Studies

Synopsis

From July 25-August 5, 2022, the Canadian Studies Centres of the Universities of Innsbruck and Vienna held the first European Summer School in Canadian Studies. The ESSCS brought 27 young Canadianists (MA and doctoral students) to Vienna and Innsbruck for a two-week program that included lectures and workshops from researchers in English, French, and Indigenous Literary and Cultural Studies, Geography, History, Political Science and Economics, Language Policy, Media and Mountain Studies. 

The highlights included two author readings by Madeleine Thien, hosted by the Embassy of Canada in Austria, and by Chloé Savoie-Bernard, three guided city tours (Vienna, Salzburg, and Innsbruck), a one-day excursion to the Alpine Obergurgl Research Center of the University of Innsbruck, an afternoon excursion to the Nordkette and a farewell dinner.
