ESSCS Postponed

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first European Summer School in Canadian Studies had to be postponed. It will now take place from 26 July to August 2021.

Please note that our work on next year's programme is still in progress and that the information on this website has not yet been updated. 


Course Fees

500 EUR  

Course fees cover the following:

  • two-week lecture programme 
  • electronic reader containing all course readings 
  • coffee breaks
  • reception on June 29
  • readings and Q&A sessions with Madeleine Thien and Catherine Mavrikakis
  • train ride from Vienna to Innsbruck on July 4
  • bus round trip Innsbruck-Obergurgl on July 8 and 9
  • two days and one night at the Obergurgl Research Center of the University of Innsbruck, including accommodation and meals 
  • city tours in Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck
  • excursion and farewell dinner on July 10

Students are encouraged to apply for funding from their regional Canadian Studies associations. 

Students of the universities of Vienna and Innsbruck may apply for tuition waivers from their institutions. For further information, please take a look at the list of available scholarships and contact the organizers. 

Additional Expenses

Accommodation (with the exception of Obergurgl) is not included in the course fees. Consulting the accommodation options in Vienna and Innsbruck on the ESSCS website might be helpful in the process of finding a place to stay. 

Course fees do not cover the journeys to Vienna and from Innsbruck. Participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements.
