Who we are

The Centre for Canadian Studies at the University of Vienna was established in January 1998 as a project of the Centre for International and Interdisciplinary Studies (ZIIS). It is a platform for interdisciplinary cooperation of research and academic teaching in Canadian Studies.

The Centre for Canadian Studies coordinates multifaceted initiatives of teaching and research taking place predominantly at the University of Vienna with a focus on Canada. It organizes and finances interdisciplinary programs furthering Canadian Studies research (in particular lecture series, symposia, and study tours).

It is co-directed by the Department of English and American Studies and the Department of Romance Studies. Various institutes at the University of Vienna are involved in the Centre for Canadian Studies, including the Department of English and American Studies, Romance Studies, Cultural and Social Anthropology, and History.

The Centre for Canadian Studies also maintains connections with other Canadian Studies programs and institutions with similar goals throughout Europe and America. It is affiliated with other Centres for Canadian Studies.
