Non-EU Teaching Mobility 2017

Prof. Sarah Phillips Casteel (Carleton University, Ottawa) will hold a short-term teaching visit during the summer term of 2017 at the Department of English and American Studies. Her course, entitled "Caribbean Postslavery Literature," will deal with contemporary Caribbean fiction, poetry, historical texts and paintings; by considering classic slave narratives as well neoslave narratives, Prof. Casteel wants to draw the students's attention to the ways in which the Middle Passage continues to shape the present. The reading list for this class will include, among others, Dionne Brand, Jean Rhys, Olaudah Equiano, Andrea Levy, and Caryl Phillips.
